Where are your products designed, and where are they created?
All of our collections are designed in Vancouver, BC. Our ceramics are crafted in Central Portugal and our flatware in Northern Portugal, both by family-owned and operated partner companies. Our glassware is crafted in Japan by a company with glassmaking roots that stretch back more than 120 years. We believe in the power of timeless designs, and we sustainably craft our premium tableware with integrity. Learn more about our products here.
Do your ceramics have lead or any other heavy metals in them?
All of our products undergo strict testing. They’re free of lead, cadmium, and other heavy metals and are compliant to GCGR, FDA and Prop 65.
Are your products dishwasher and microwave safe?
All Fable products are durably crafted for everyday use and are completely dishwasher safe. Fable ceramics are microwave safe and even oven safe up to 450ºF.
Do your ceramics scratch easily?
While all semi-matte ceramics are susceptible to superficial marks from your flatware, they can be easily taken off with a good scrubber and a scouring compound. If you notice marks on your ceramics, use a scouring powder like Bar Keepers Friend to make a paste with water; lemon juice and baking soda will also work. Using the paste and a scrubber—we recommend our Tawashi Brush—give the surface of your ceramics a hearty scrub for a few seconds. After a soapy rinse, your dishes should be good as new.
I can’t decide which Fable products I love the most. Do you send samples?
We offer a 100-day trial on all of our products. So, if you're not in love for any reason, then just let us know and we’ll take them off your hands and provide a full refund (or send you a different color if you want).
What’s this I hear about a 100-day trial? How does it work?
We believe you should find the right tableware for you, and sometimes you can’t know what fits best until you try it out. If you decide that your products aren’t quite right for you during the first 100 days after you receive them, feel free to return them for a full refund—no questions asked. Our return process is simple, just enter your details here to start a return.
Rest assured that returned plates won’t go to waste. All previously owned plates are either donated to local charities or reused at local charity events that we sponsor.
Did your Speckled White glaze change?
Yes! We are always looking for ways to improve and we adjusted our glaze to be slightly less matte in June 2020. This has helped limit those pesky gray markings that matte ceramics are susceptible to. If you have any questions about this, feel free to send us a chat or email to email@example.com
Where are your textiles made?
Our textiles are crafted at a fifth generation family-owned weaving mill in Belgium that’s been operating since 1858.
What are your textiles made from?
The Tablecloth and Napkins are made from 100% pure linen that carries the Masters of Linen® and Belgian Linen™ quality labels. Each piece also has a Fable label that’s made from 100% cotton.
Does linen have to be ironed?
No—in fact, linen has a tendency to take on beautiful, organic wrinkles, especially after coming out of the dryer. It can be ironed for a more formal, refined aesthetic, or simply washed and dried for a more natural, casual look. If ironing, iron with steam on slightly damp linen, preferably on the inner face of the fabric.
Does linen shrink?
Linen may shrink up to 3%, especially if put in the dryer on high temperatures for long periods. We recommend line drying your linen when possible, or tumble drying on low-medium heat (and taking care not to overdry it).
What makes linen a great choice for the kitchen and table?
We chose linen for its durability and longevity. It’s naturally strong, absorbs moisture easily, is lint-free, and is easy to care for. Plus, the more you wash it, the softer (and better) it gets.
Pre-Orders & Waitlist
When will my pre-ordered tableware arrive?
Our teams in Canada, Portugal, and Japan are working hard to get all pre-ordered products stocked as quickly as possible. Each item has a different estimated ship date, and we’ll send out email updates every few weeks so that you are kept informed. If you have further questions, please reach out to our customer support team at firstname.lastname@example.org.
What if some of the items I purchased are listed in stock but others are in pre-order?
If you prefer to have the items listed in stock sent out first then send us a quick email (and we’ll remind you about this option again after you purchase). Otherwise, we’ll send your full order once when we have everything.
When will my card be charged for pre-orders?
Your card will be charged when your order is placed which secures your spot. If you decide later that you don't want to wait, chat with us or send an email to email@example.com, and we’ll provide a full refund.
Will you send out updates on the status of the pre-orders?
We’ll keep you updated on the status and shipping date of your pre-order as we move closer to the shipping date. Expect to receive an email update every 2-3 weeks. We love sharing the location of your tableware as it journeys across the ocean.
I signed up for the fable waitlist. When will my desired product be ready for purchase, and how will I be notified?
Each item on the waitlist has a different estimated delivery time. Rest assured, you’re in line to receive an email notification when that product becomes available for purchase, so keep your eyes on your inbox. We also send out email updates every few weeks for the products that have the longest wait times so that you are kept informed.
What is the best way to care for my new tableware?
Your new ceramics are dishwasher, microwave, and oven-safe (up to 450ºF). While all semi-matte ceramics are susceptible to superficial marks from your flatware, they can be easily taken off. Check out our tips here. The bases of our ceramics are intentionally left unglazed—it is a design detail we hope you appreciate as much as we do. If they come into contact with substances that may stain, please clean quickly to avoid any long-term marks.Flatware:
Feel free to put your new flatware sets in the dishwasher or clean them by hand—you do you. To help reduce water spots, we recommend using a rinse aid—plain white vinegar also works—in your dishwasher. We recommend rinsing them first, not overcrowding the baskets, and not mixing in other metals such as gold and silver. If washing by hand, do not use abrasive brushes and be sure to rinse and dry immediately afterwards.Textiles:
Linen is one of the strongest natural fibers on earth, and its durability makes it fit to stand the washer, dryer, and iron. Before placing it in the washing machine, unfold your linen completely. Choose a mild detergent, and avoid chlorine bleach and fabric softeners. Wash at a maximum of 104°F (40°C), and don’t overload the machine. Line drying is best for your linen and the environment, though it can also be tumble dried. For best results, dry on low-medium heat, and be careful not to overdry. Note that linen may shrink up to 3% in the dryer. When ironing, slightly dampen linen and iron with steam, preferably on the inner face of the fabric.Glassware:
Your new glassware is dishwasher safe, in both household and commercial settings. Made in Japan using a special ion-toughening technique, both the Tall and Short Glasses are made to be scratch resistant and highly durable for everyday use. They’re about 1.6 times stronger than non-toughened glassware, meaning they won’t break as easily—but keep in mind that all glass is still fragile to some degree, and may crack or break if dropped onto a hard surface. Treat it with care.
I broke a plate, cracked a glass and lost a spoon—can you help?
Totally. Send us an email to firstname.lastname@example.org or chat with us and we'll help you make your set whole again.
Does your dinnerware have any warranty?
We aim for your dinnerware to last you a lifetime. If anything happens to your order during shipping then let us know. We’ll send you a replacement promptly.
If you ever break a plate or chip a bowl later on, then also let us know. We sell single items so you can replace just one instead of buying a whole new set.
Shipping & Returns
How much does it cost to ship?
We offer a $10 flat rate for shipping under $150. Shipping on orders above $150 is free.
When will my product ship out?
If your order was in stock, expect to receive a shipping confirmation and tracking number within 1-2 business days. If your order was on pre-order, check out the pre-order and waitlist section to learn more.
Where do you ship to?
We ship to both Canada (excluding Nunavut) and the United States (excluding Alaska and Hawaii). If you're located outside of these regions, then send us an email and we'd be happy to work on a solution together.
Where do your products ship from, and will I have to pay any shipping duties?
Our products are first shipped from Portugal or Japan to our warehouse in Canada, then shipped out to your home. You will not have to pay duty on your Fable products as we handle all import fees when we bring them into North America. If for any reason you are asked to pay duties on your packages, please send an email to email@example.com.
What's your return policy? How do I return my product?
If you’re not in love with your new tableware, you can start a return or exchange here. We'll even send you a shipping label to send your order back to us for a full refund.
Where do I check the status of my order once it’s shipped?
Once your order has been shipped, you’ll receive a confirmation and a tracking number so you can follow your package as it travels to your home.
What should I do with the packaging when my order arrives?
All of our packaging materials are recyclable. To recycle the boxes, envelopes, and packing paper, flatten and place them curbside or wherever you put other recyclable products like cans, bottles, and cartons. The sustainable bio-film that cushions your products is made from potato starch and maize starch. Composed of renewable raw resources, it is fully home compostable and 100% biodegradable. Any packing peanuts shipped with your order are also made of starch and will break down in the sink with water.
What if my dinnerware is damaged when it arrives?
Shipping tableware, especially ceramics and glassware, can be tricky. If your tableware arrives broken or chipped, let us know. We’ll always make it right.
How does Fable think about social impact?
At Fable, we want the world to be a better place, starting at the kitchen table. Through the artisans we work with, our partners, and the platform we build, we aim to make a difference.
We take a holistic view of our product from our supply chain, to our design and creation, and ensure every part of our products meets our standard of excellence. We ensure that all the suppliers we work with have excellent and safe working conditions (with third-party audits to confirm this), equal pay for women and minorities, and overall meet the standards of where we’d want to work.
We also partner with local charities and sponsor events that aim to reduce hunger locally across the world. Follow our journey by signing up for our newsletter.
What causes does Fable support?
Our vision has always been to bring joy to every meal, and that includes meals for those less fortunate than us. Before we created a single plate, we began working with MealShare. For every set of dinnerware purchased, we donate a meal to a youth in need through their program. We also partner with other local charities and events, and help host fundraisers for a variety of local efforts. If you have an initiative we could help with, we welcome emails to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Are Fable’s products sustainably produced?
Our products are built to last, meant to be used every day, and are products you can feel good about having in your home. During the production of our dinnerware, nothing goes to waste.
As our ceramics are made, all excess clay clippings, broken plates, and water used during production are recycled and reused. Clay clippings and broken plates are reincorporated into the production process for reuse, and broken ceramics that have already been glazed are recycled into concrete. Once the water used during production has been recycled multiple times and becomes too saturated with clay particles, it’s reused as fertilizer in local farmers’ fields. During the day, our ceramics facility is 100% solar powered.
As our glassware is made, approximately half of the materials used come from in-house recycled glass cullet (broken or waste glass). The Japanese facility that produces our glassware received a Management System Certificate for Environmental Management in 2005, and are currently working to reduce CO2 emissions by 14%, while also working to reduce material input by 3%. In addition, they are continually working to reduce energy, resource consumption, and waste. At Fable, we are working towards our aim of ensuring that our creators eventually have zero-waste facilities.
Where can I view Fable products in person?
Which stores carry your products?
Currently, we don’t have retailers that carry our products.
Can I send your products as a gift?
Of course! We ship to Canada and the United States—and we don't include a packing slip with the price on it.
